Top Shop

TOPSHOP COMING TO CAPE TOWN!

Sometimes we do not realise how fortunate we are that we have so many stores right at our doorstep for us to enjoy. Top shop is giving us a little taste of their brand from July until October.
There will be a pop-up Top Shop in central Cape Town in 24 Kloof Street at Unknown union. Best advice to all you shopaholics out there... SAVE SAVE SAVE!!!
They have a wide variety of clothing and a broad target market. This being said every South African should be able to find something they like in this store. I love that Cape Town is being exposed to so many new stores. I think the next step is for us to all help and support our local designers.

Just some fun in the class room

Last week in class our theme was Avant-garde/high fashion, i had such a wonderful time i just have to share it with you all. Avant-garde is often outrageous, creates a statement, props are often used but the beauty is not lost in the makeup. I must be honest i did struggle a bit with this; you cannot just switch that creative switch on.

My lecturer gave us such a fun idea, he ran across the road to woollies and purchased a pack of beautiful lace cup cake holders. He placed it on the model’s head as a stencil and used a strong pigmented black shadow with a blush brush and brushed over the stencil.
I love the way being creative comes so naturally to some ;)

Friday Fave

Statement Trousers
Trending Right now!
I have been window shopping for the last week because I feel like a different look.
Something that has really caught my eye is bold, patterned, colourful and busy looking pants.

This is definitely not for everyone but most people could look pretty stylish paring it with simple pieces.
I am going out shopping this afternoon to get the two pairs of pants that I really want. Watch this space for an outfit post with them on.

Vintage Shopping Cape Town

Just like I promised here is a little Vintage shopping guide:

Bargain Galore is a charity store that’s situated on 303 Sea Point Main Road. They have second hand dresses, pants, skirts and tops for ladies. They also have second hand books and tons of little nick knacks. The prices range from R30 to R300.

Second Time around has been around for the longest out of all the vintage stores but it is all new and improved. They have the biggest variety of second hand clothing. Second time around is more on trend than the other thrift stores within Cape Town.
The new renovation has given the store a more professional feel. You can find them on 196 Long Street Cape Town.

Beverly’s Closet is situated in Oxford Street in Durbanville. This shop has also been around for a very long time. They have a lot of luxury items. They have a complete section at the back with Fur and trench coats. This is a store filled with different fashion related items.

Babette is situated in 44 Church Street. This is not a second hand clothing store but second hand clothing that has been reworked. The clothes have all been reconstructed to suit the fashion needs of an individual of this day and age.

Afraid of Mice in Shop 86 Long Street is a store filled with “The clothes you wish your mother had kept for you.” They stock clothing from high end designers such as Chanel, Oscar De La Renta, Marc Jacobs, Ralph Lauren and Stella McCartney. This store is a bit more expensive than the previous stores mentioned but they stock classic pieces.

Wine Tasting

On Monday I went wine tasting with a couple of girlfriends. A day filled with fun and laughter. This is something different to do for a girl's day out. Innocent fun is what it was. We went to Beyerskloof farm in Stellenbosch and it is R20 for 8 glasses to taste. We also went to Tokara where we tasted 6 glasses for free.

I apoligise for the quality of the pictures but I took them off my cell phone.

Jeffrey Campbell FOUND!

186 Long Street

I found a store that stocks Jeffrey Campbell shoes. I went to one of my fav's today for some shopping and saw a bright blue pair of Jeffrey Campbell Lita's in the window of Journey. I got overly excited and ran straight in. Walking out 5 minutes later very disappointed.

Only disappointed because I could not get a pair of JC's right then and there. The shop assistant was super helpful and said she would phone me when their new stock arrives in 10 days. She also said that they will be retailing for a bit cheaper than the previous price of R2800.

I CANNOT WAIT TO ROCK MY JC'S!!!!

She said they will be getting stock of the studded Litas, the lace and in an array of colours.
Can someone please be as excited as I am haha

Spa Day Crystal Towers Hotel

My mother and I had a mom and daughter day at the Crystal Towers Spa & Hotel by Canal walk yesterday. She really spoilt me with a day booked full of treatments. I had a Massage, Pedi, Facial and we booked the Rasul Chamber.

This is where you apply deep cleansing exfoliation and mudd. As I wanted to get out I got drenched in water because it rains from the roof to rinse it off. My mom and I were going for lunch after this in the Hotel and I did not want my hair to get wet. That did not turn out as planned.

This was such an amazing day and it was so relaxing. The best thing out of it all is I got to spend some quality time with my mom. I recommend it for anyone to go and experience. You should have a look at their different packages they offer.

Make-Up Brushes

The importance of cleaning your make up brushes

How often do we really clean our makeup brushes?
I have seen so many of my friends and strangers make up brushes that look like they have not been cleaned for months. It is so important to give your make up brushes a good wash.

Why? I will tell you why...

Firstly it is extremely unhygienic and secondly if you take care of your brushes they will last much longer.

Everyone gets break outs and it is completely normal. If u apply foundation with your make up brush over the blemish and you use the brush the following day, you will just be spreading that bacteria.

I will be doing a post about a product you could use to clean them but the ulternative root is to clean them with shampoo or your facial cleanser. This method works perfectly.

Warning! If you have wooden brushes try not putting the entire brush under water. If you do (like I did) in time it will start cracking. I have started to avoid using products that contain alcohol to clean my brushes as it tends to dry out the bristles and break the hairs.

So ladies get cleaning
xoxo

Modelbase

I know that it can be hard breaking into the industry being a young makeup artist, model or photographer. Check out modelbase, it is a social network for makeup artists, models and photographers in South Africa. It is a great way to meet the correct people in the industry and hear about upcoming jobs.

Dedication to M.A.C

Stressed, Depressed, but WELL Dressed

Zara Cape Town

Something I am really excited about is the fact that the Spanish International Fashion brand Zara is opening soon in our very own V&A Waterfront later this year.

Zara is a well recognized brand that is very fashion forward.
Cape Town will be exposed to European fashion trends.
This brand focuses on manifacturing Fashion forward garments of great quality and fit.

You must be thinking that this brand will be really expensive but they offer this service at affordable prices and they will be adjusting their prices to fit with the needs of a South African consumer.

Bigger is always better

As I mentioned in my previous post, I went to Lovisa to get a new statement  piece for my collection.

I just could not resist . The highlight of my buy is that I got a beautiful piece that I can rock with my next outfit post. The downer is that I went to cotton on and saw a similar one for half the price.

How to wear this necklace?

A big trend right now is to wear it underneath a buttoned up Peter Pan collar or any blouse with a collar.

I will post a look with it this weekend.

Lovisa Sale

I had lunch with a friend of mine today at Canal Walk and popped in at Lovisa. I love oversized necklaces and they have very unique pieces. So I wanted to go and get me a new one for my collection.

I was greeted at the door with a little sale basket. The staff then told me that there is a R100.00 Sale.
You can choose any 3 pieces of jewelry that has a red sticker on it and all of this for only R100.00. I thought I would share this with all our viewers.

Jewelry is one accessory that can change an entire outfit. They have ranges in every color, shape, size and form.

So time to get shopping dolls!!!

Product of the week: Estee lauder Double wear foundation

I have been using Estee Lauders double wear foundation for quite some time now; it is defiantly a great product. I have a very oily skin so other foundations tend to whip off within an hour of application, but double wear lasts for up to 12 hours. You have a fresh face all day! Double wear foundation gives a beautiful porcelain finish with great coverage, it sets nicely on any skin type and it also contains a SPF of 15 which is VERY important, we do not want sun spots!
The one thing that bothers me with double wear foundation is that it tends to make your face look extremely white in photographs apparently it is because of the SPF used in the foundation. So ladies if you are getting married do not choose double wear foundation but otherwise it is a great day to day foundation!

My first Fashion Show

Elizabeth Galloway Graduate Fashion Show

This is my first fashion show and definitely the best experience as a Fashion designer so far. The first year students had to design shorts or a pencil skirt to be in the show.

Top: Cotton On
Necklace: Sass Diva
Shoes: The models
Shorts: Stylishly Obscure

I worked backstage as a dresser. They told us it would be hectic and it sure was. We had to dress the models in a matter of seconds. I don’t think we could have asked for a better team of models. The pace was fast and when I say fast, I mean it. 12 Hours was all over in a blink of an eye and the show was a big success.

This was a wonderful experience from the beginning to the end. Now I would like to try and tackle Cape Town Fashion week… If I am so fortunate to be given to opportunity to do so.

Much love sistas!

Diary of a Manhattan call girl

Diary of a Manhattan call girl
by Tracy Quan
Fiction

This was such a fun read and a wonderful escape from reality. The title pretty much explains it all. Nancy who is in her early thirties is one of the call girls for New York’s elite society, struggling to come to terms with tying the knot. Jam packed with bad girl secrets! This is a very raunchy novel and it is defiantly a page turner.

The crackling trend

Crackling nail polish has become a huge trend; i think it is a fun way to use your nails as a fashion accessory.

Fashion Hunters

This program is really interesting and unlike any other fashion related programs that I have watched before.
This is about a team who buys in second hand clothes and sells them at their retail value.

Most of their items are high end pieces that have a story behind them or are pieces from top designers.
Being a first year fashion student I find this show so entertaining because I get to know all the different designers and also find it very interesting how they see if a garment or bag is really by the designer the customer says it is.

Vintage or second hand clothing is a big trend right now.
This weekend I am going to visit different vintage shops in Cape Town.
I will post about it soon...

You can catch Fashion Hunters on Vuzu 123 on DSTV
